This Mothers Day, if we honor the Divine Mother, we can find lost treasures that we’ve been missing in our topsy-turvy times. No matter what your relationship is – or was – with your birth mother, or any mother figure in your life, this is a chance to see motherhood as a sacred principle and power, of nurturance and protection.
Astrologically, Jupiter now in maternal Cancer enhances understanding of what it means to belong to a family and feel at home in a circle of souls, accepted for who you are in a mutually interdependent support system. The drive to belong has huge ramifications on personal, national and global scales for better or worse, especially as Jupiter is in a Cardinal Cross that fuels behaviors guided by emotional impulses. An example of this drive is the crisis in Ukraine, driven by nostalgia for belonging to Mother Russia. This is like trying to pull the baby back into the womb rather than helping the child to grow and mature as its own entity. You can’t return a baby to the womb! Although I’ve never visited Ukraine, some of my ancestors came from Ukraine, and this crisis makes me think of the turmoil that made them take the terrifying leap to leave their homeland and everything familiar to seek a better life in America. Claims that ethnic Russians must be protected beg the question: if those Ukrainians needing such protection would be happier living in Russia?
If Mother Russia accepts Ukraine’s autonomy, it can have a mature relationship with its people, based on mutual respect and love, without feeling threatened by new influences upon Ukrainians from Europe. As a proud mother of two fine adult sons, I know how hard it is to let go and watch your children grow up and find their way in the world, but that is the way of evolution, and ultimately my joy, to see how well they are creating lives and families of their own. Vladimir Putin could take pride in all ethnic Russians who will always belong in spirit to Mother Russia, whether or not they are within Russia’s national borders … couldn’t he?

Mothers Day thoughts extend to another extremely painful story that is gripping the world’s concerns, fears and anguish; the 200+ kidnapped Nigerian girls. Joining my prayers to millions of others for their safe return, I also pray that this inhumane and unconscionable act will be a tipping point for international awareness of women’s rights going forward as a high priority. Every mother everywhere wants those girls returned to their homes and families so their healing process can begin.
Lastly, our over-exploiting Mother Earth has brought us climate change and extreme weather. This Mothers Day, let’s commit to doing more to protect Mother Earth, the homeland that serves us all. Last month, my husband and I installed solar panels and we are referring others to the company for this service. The energy our panels have already generated equals 3 trees saved and a reduced carbon footprint. We also grow food with a system that conserves 90% of the water that soil growing requires. I am glad to tell you more about this too if you want to contact me via NewAgeSages.com to learn more. Wishing you a happy and blessed Mothers Day!
